Dear Alex,

More animals are horribly abused and painfully killed on factory farms and in slaughterhouses than anywhere else on the planet. You can help us in our work to end this abuse by supporting PETA's factory-farming campaign. (http://getactive.peta.org/ct/U7w4rlS1MYdj/)

Tiny chicks have their sensitive beaks cut off with a burning-hot blade. And every year, millions of chickens—fully aware of what is happening to them—are scalded to death in vats of hot water.

Mother pigs are forcibly impregnated and confined to filthy, metal crates so small and hard that they can't even turn around or lie down comfortably. Piglets often have their teeth, tails, and testicles cut off—without any painkillers.

Cows endure agonizing procedures like castration, branding, and dehorning—all without any pain relief. Many end up being skinned alive or having their hooves cut off when they are still conscious. These animals feel pain and despair just as we do, yet they are treated without an ounce of compassion.

With the help of caring individuals like you, PETA is steadfastly winning welfare reforms from some of the biggest companies in this cruel business. PETA is responsible for the first farmed-animal welfare standards ever in the U.S. grocery and restaurant industries—improving awful conditions for cows, chickens, pigs and other farmed animals. But we need to make these new animal protection reforms industrywide. With your online donation today, (http://getactive.peta.org/ct/U7w4rlS1MYdj/) you can help us stop more abuse of farmed animals.

The factory farming industry has long resisted even minor changes to reduce cruelty to the animals it exploits. But today, PETA is fundamentally changing how these companies operate.

No other organization is working on so many fronts to save farmed animals: undertaking risky undercover investigations and getting corporations prosecuted under cruelty-to-animals laws, creating and rewriting corporate animal welfare policies through shareholder resolutions and tough negotiations, leading consumer boycotts and public protests to pressure companies to change the way they treat animals, and promoting the lifesaving virtues of a cruelty-free vegan diet—for animals and for ourselves. And PETA's efforts are making a huge difference:

Smithfield Foods—the world's largest pork producer—announced last year that it would begin phasing out cruel gestation crates on all its company-owned farms.

And this February, after enduring PETA campaigns for several years and more than 100 PETA demonstrations, Safeway became the first grocery-store chain and Fortune 500 company to adopt improved animal welfare standards.

Burger King completely overhauled its animal welfare policies, sending shockwaves through the meat industry. We are successfully battling against animal abuse—corporation by corporation. And PETA's ability to sustain such a comprehensive defense of these animals depends on the support of friends like you.

For the first time ever, the momentum for change is on our side. Can we please count on your support to help us intensify our efforts today? (http://getactive.peta.org/ct/U7w4rlS1MYdj/) Together, we can change even the worst abusers in the business and make life better for so many vulnerable, dear animals.

Kind regards,

Ingrid E. Newkirk
President
