Urge Your U.S. Representative to Support the Bear Protection Act
Dear Friend,
The U.S. House of Representatives is considering an important wildlife bill that has the potential to save the lives of tens of thousands of bears worldwide. Your U.S. Representative needs to hear your support today. Please urge your U.S. Representative (https://community.hsus.org/campaign/FED_2008_bear_protection2/wun3bgs4p7bt3k73?) to co-sponsor this bill to protect bears! The Bear Protection Act (H.R. 5534) would protect bears from poaching by prohibiting the import, export, and interstate commerce of bear gallbladders and bile for underground trade in Asian pharmaceuticals and non-medical items including shampoos and hemorrhoid creams. Some investigators have estimated that for every bear killed by sport hunters in the U.S., at least one additional bear is slaughtered by poachers and found with their abdomens sliced open and their gallbladders removed. TAKE ACTION
Please make a brief, polite phone call to urge your U.S. Representative to co-sponsor the Bear Protection Act. Click here (https://community.hsus.org/ct/y1LtFA91LRHe/) to look up your U.S. Representative and the phone number. When you call, you will likely speak to a staff member who will pass your message along to your Representative. Remember to be polite and professional, and leave your name and address so it is clear that you are a constituent. You can say: "Hello, my name is [your name] and I live in [your town]. As a constituent, I'm calling to urge [Representative's name] to co-sponsor H.R. 5534, the Bear Protection Act. The U.S. Congress should take steps to stop the poaching of bears for their gall bladders. Thank you." After making your call, please send a follow-up email to your U.S. Representative (https://community.hsus.org/campaign/FED_2008_bear_protection2/wun3bgs4p7bt3k73?) to urge support for the Bear Protection Act. And don't forget to tell your friends and family (https://community.hsus.org/campaign/FED_2008_bear_protection2/forward/wun3bgs4p7bt3k73?) how they can take action on this critical legislation, too. Thank you for all you do for animals. Sincerely,
