View Full Version : Automatic Flushers? Do we REALLY need them?

Some things are great ideas in theory, but in practice they're just plain wasteful. To me, automatic flushers fall directly in that category.

Today I am flying back from a visit to Chico, CA and I am currently sitting in the airport for a few hours waiting to board. With this much time, I found it necessary to do some exercises for my shoulder, as I am still recovering from surgery in January. So, I ended up using a bathroom stall and was able to do almost all of my exercises within the confines of it. Unfortunately, throwing a tennis ball was just not possible.

Anyway, while I was in there, the toilet flushed 3 times because they have the automatic flushers. The toilet was perfectly clean, but because of me being in front of the sensors, many gallons of clean water were wasted. Not to mention the energy that is wasted by having the sensors on in the first place.

Do we really need automatic flushers in public toilets? If it's because of a cleanliness thing, you're going to (well you better!) wash your hands after you go anyway. If it's a convenient thing, uhhhhh....if you don't have the time to press a button or handle, you can probably hire someone to do it for you.

Well, that's my rant for the morning..
