Mother's Day is approaching us. While it still seems odd to me that someone chose only 1 day a year to celebrate mothers and fathers, many people still feel the need to celebrate on this day. But this year, why not celebrate two mother's: your mother and Mother Nature.

Instead of going out to the mall like the zombies in George Romero's "Dawn of the Dead," why not get creative with ReUse? Coming up with a unique gift for your mom will not only please her, it will be easier on the planet. Here are just some ideas:

-Design a "Number 1 Mom" T-Shirt with a t-shirt from a thrift store and some permanent markers
-Cut up old greeting cards and make them into a new one
-Give your mom a day of cleaning to help her reuse, by getting rid of unwanted things at a yard sale or donating them to a thrift store
-buy your mom some reusable products like shopping bags and travel mugs to help her reuse more

If you have any more ideas, share them here...

"I love my mother as much as anyone, but I'm a musician (and therefore super broke)! What do I do for Mother's Day?"

Old instruments and musical equipment can be turned into a variety of home furnishings and make great mother's day gifts. With a little creativity and scavenging, you can turn that old broken guitar into a lamp, or turn that old snare drum into a flower pot. I'm giving my mom a clock made from an old crash cymbal. Electronics are fun and easy to scavenge, but you can just as easily turn that old keyboard stand into a towel rack or use that old drum head as a painting canvas. The potential is limitless. Not only will your mother feel loved, but she will have finally gotten a return on investing in your musical career!

Cheers!

A neat idea for a mother's day gift is a collage. It's something my siblings and myself have done for our mother. Get creative and they can come out looking pretty neat.
