I know that it's not only in Paris but seriously some people make me nervous : why????
they don't respect laws
for example, since April 1st (if my memory is good :D ) you couldn't smoke in close public place (like subway)
but some people don't respect that ; it's like they are alone on earth
that's crazy!!
....mainly when you don't love cigarette

Hm, I'm not sure about that... I have collegues who say all the time "the weather is doing strange, it's the people ruining the planet", while they're keeping they're motor of the car turning on while parked...

why should we respect the laws they lay out for us?
they don't give us enough respect in the rights we're suppose to have.
(i'm from america, so it is different in paris, i am sure)
but we don't get respected here, so why should we respect them?
we get bashed for freedom of speech, when that is our right!
we get maced in the face when we don't show any violence at all.
the pigs here like to antagonize the people, not help them.
if they ever banned smoking in public...trust me, i will have fines up the ass, because i am not standing for that!
Air is free...and no one can claim it.
if i want to smoke, well, then i will :D

When the non-smokers place an ashtray 10 feet from their place of business for the smokers, that tells me that they respect the choices of the smokers. Is it not fair to smoke beside that ashtray? There are businesses here in Canada that have actually built protected smoking places for their employees and the rules apply to everyone... no smoking within 5 meters of the entrance to any business establishment. I have yet to see someone being arrested for not obeying this law but I believe that day will most certainly come. This law was imposed not by parliament but by the Workers Compensation Board. It goes hand in hand with the "no smoking in a public building" rule. The drinking establishments were hit very hard by this. Many built smoking rooms where their employees were not required to go. The patrons had to go to the bar and get their own drinks. I have not been to a pub in many years so I have no idea if the smoking areas are still there. With the 5 meter rule, I think probably not.
Respect is something earned... not a birthright.
By the way.... I am a smoker but I do not blow smoke in the face of a non-smoker just to prove that the "air is free" because it isn't. :) :) We must "share" it. :D
P.S. The police in Canada have tasers and mace so your best bet is to remain where you are.
