You can save yourself a lot of money and time if you start buying CD-RW's. These cost a bit more than CD-R's, but after about 10-20 uses, it balances out and becomes cheaper. Not to mention the fact that it's only 1 disc, as opposed to 10-20 which uses so much energy and materials to make. So, if you need to buy something to make your files portable, go with something that won't just get thrown away after 1 use.
I can't tell you how many CD-R's I used to use when I was doing merchandise for bands. We'd have some new pin designs and I would put the files on the disc, bring it to the copy shop to print out, and then the disc would be (gulp!) thrown away. Fortunately, many were saved and I have a giant stack of CD-R's waiting for some kind of ReUse project.
