I have an old box spring and mattress that have some unfortunate stains and could not be reused as mattresses for people. Anyone have some ideas on how to reuse the materials in any way?

we had a old mattress once that couldn't be used by people anymore, so we let our dogs have it as a doggie bed:D they seemed to really like it!

Maybe you can somehow sell it? or recycle it? Ir probably wouldn't be good for your back to use it though.. you should just get a new mattress (here's a Bed Guide (http://www.bestbedguide.com))

It might sound far-out there but...depending on the size,if its a full or bigger, you could cut the mattress, long way, down the middle on one side, fold, hot glue some material over the opening, once you cut and fold the sagging won't be an issue, make a slip cover from an old sheet, use for a futon frame .The box springs could be cut in half, make 2 braces from wood scraps, bolt together as a sofa,(you can unbolt for a guest bed)make a slip cover for both pieces ,put homemade futon mattress on top, place against the wall.Toss a couple of decorative pillows and blanket on and it looks like a new piece of furniture!I know, sounds weird ,but it can be done!
